Leadership Athens Class of 2025 Information

Purpose:

The purpose of Leadership Athens is to develop and enhance leadership skills, foster community trusteeship, and promote personal and professional growth while learning all about the Athens/Henderson County community.  Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the Athens community, its needs, and opportunities through a series of interactive and informative sessions. 

Class Schedule & Topics:

Program Duration: 7 months  

Location: All classes begin and end at Athens Partnership Center, 201 W. Corsicana, unless notified otherwise. Please note that transportation to local stops during the day will be provided.  

*Dates/Topics Subject to Change

  • August 27 @ 5-7 pm: Meet and Greet and History of Athens  
  • September 10: Leadership Skills, Community Trusteeship/Service Organizations, Financial Institutions  
  • October 8: City/County Day  
  • November 12: Education and Health Care  
  • January 14: Public Safety/Social Services  
  • February 11: Austin State Government Trip (optional, but highly recommended.)  Recognized on the House floor. Mixer on Monday night and 8:30-4 at Capital. 
  • March 11: Chamber, Workforce/Economic Development, Tourism  
  • April 8: Graduation 

**Additional Requirement: Attend one AISD Board and one Athens City Council meeting on your own (dates of these meetings will be provided for reference).  

Class Project:

 The leadership class will work together on a project, such as building benches in a public park or another community enhancement project. Participants are encouraged to share progress and completion on social media using the designated leadership hashtag. 

Eligibility:

  • Must be a resident or employee in Athens, TX.  
  • Demonstrated interest in community leadership. 

Tuitition:

  • Cost: $500 includes all materials, meals, and transportation in-town during class days. 
  • Travel to/from Austin and any hotel stays are optional and must be paid by the participant/participant business.  
  • Payment is due upon acceptance into the program.
